Coffee is popular all around the world.

커피는 전 세계에서 인기가 있다.

But why did people begin roasting coffee beans?

그런데 왜 사람들은 커피콩을 볶기 시작했을까?

No one is sure, but here is one story from Ethiopia.

아무도 확신하지 못하지만, 여기에 에티오피아에서 유래한 한 이야기가 있다.

One day, a shepherd’s goats ate some red berries from a strange bush.

어느 날, 한 양치기의 염소들이 이상한 관목에 달린 어떤 빨간 열매들을 먹었다.

Later, they began to run around and jump up and down.

나중에, 그것들은 뛰어다니고 펄쩍펄쩍 뛰기 시작했다.

This was because the seeds of the berries were coffee beans, and the caffeine inside them made the goats excited.

이것은 그 열매들의 씨앗들이 커피콩들이었고, 그것들 안에 있는 카페인이 염소들을 흥분되게 만들었기 때문이었다.

When the shepherd told some monks the story, they thought that the berries came from the devil.

양치기가 몇몇 수도사들에게 그 이야기를 말했을 때, 그들은 그 열매들이 악마에게서 왔다고 생각했다.

They threw the berries into a fire.

그들은 그 열매들을 불 속으로 던졌다.

But when the coffee beans inside the berries began to burn, the smell was wonderful.

그러나 열매들 안의 커피콩들이 타기 시작했을 때, 냄새가 정말 좋았다.

So, the monks made a black drink from the burned beans.

그래서, 그 수도사들은 탄 콩들로 검은색 음료를 만들었다.

Since then, people have enjoyed drinking coffee.
