What will humans look like in 100,000 years?
Researchers looked at the human body, Earth’s climate, and technology.
Then they made predictions about the appearance of humans in the future.
First, some researchers predict that the shape and size of people’s bodies will change in the future.
Since the 14th century, humans have been gradually developing larger brains and heads.
If this continues, future people may have larger foreheads than people today.
Earth’s climate has also gotten warmer.
If global temperatures keep rising, people may eventually have taller, thinner bodies that can release heat more efficiently.
Second, future humans could have darker skin and bigger eyes.
People might create technology that will allow them to live on other planets.
If that happens, darker skin could help protect them from UV radiation outside of Earth’s atmosphere.
Also, larger eyes would help them see on planets farther from the Sun.
Other influences may also change people.
Perhaps parents will be able to design healthy bodies or even specific faces for their children.
Only time will prove these predictions right or wrong.
Move over, skyscrapers!
The “Earthscraper” is here!
‘Earthscraper’
This upside down pyramid is the groundbreaking idea of architects in Mexico City.
Currently, Mexico has a fast-growing population but little space.
Also, tall buildings are forbidden in order to preserve the city’s cultural heritage.
To deal with these problems, architects suggested digging under Zócalo, Mexico City’s main square.
Because it will be hidden underground, the 65-floor Earthscraper will maintain the city’s historical look and public spaces.
The square can still hold events, such as concerts and parades, on the structure’s massive glass roof.
Natural light will come through the glass and brighten the entire building — even the lowest floor!
The Earthscraper will include a museum as well as provide space for offices, stores, and homes.
In addition, every tenth floor will be a garden floor.
The plants there will work as natural air filters.
The Earthscraper is still in the planning stages, but it could be an important type of building in the future.
As we keep finding ways to deal with issues of population growth and public space protection, the Earthscraper stands out as a promising alternative.
