In 1998, when an architect named Mohammed Rezwan founded the Shidhulai nonprofit organization, all he had was an idea: to build schools on boats.

1998년, Mohammed Rezwan이라는 건축가가 Shidhulai 비영리 단체를 설립했을 당시, 그가 가진 전부는 배 위에 학교를 짓자라는 아이디어뿐이었다.

Rezwan began Shidhulai because he wanted to turn water from a problem into a resource.

He lives in Bangladesh.

There, rivers flood every year in the rainy season.

During the floods, many children cannot travel to schools and end up dropping out.

But Rezwan thought the rivers could carry schools to the children instead of blocking the way to schools!

Today, Shidhulai builds riverboats that act as transportation, classrooms, and power sources.

요즘 Shidhulai는 교통수단, 교실, 그리고 동력원 역할을 하는 강배를 짓고 있다.

Like school buses, the boats pick up students from their homes.

통학 버스처럼 배는 학생들을 그들의 집에서 태운다.

Each boat has desks, a blackboard, a library, and a computer with Internet access.

각 배에는 책상, 칠판, 도서관, 그리고 인터넷 연결이 되는 컴퓨터가 있다.

Solar panels on the roofs provide electricity and charge lanterns that students take home at night.

지붕에 있는 태양 전지판은 전기를 제공해주고 밤에 학생들이 집으로 가져가는 손전등을 충전한다.

Thanks to Mohammed Rezwan’s bright idea, over 70,000 children have greater access to school.

In the future, Shidhulai plans to bring education to even more children.
