Could the Earth’s environment be recreated on a spaceship?

To find the answer, scientists created a futuristic “greenhouse” in the Sonoran Desert in the U.S.

It was built between 1987 and 1991 to recreate the ecosystems of the Earth.

Scientists called it Biosphere 2, as the Earth was Biosphere 1.

Many artificial habitats, such as an ocean, a rainforest, and a desert, were created inside the structure.
