Last week, my family enjoyed Chinese New Year.
지난주 우리 가족은 중국의 설을 즐겁게 보냈어.
It lasts several days and celebrates the start of the lunar calendar in January or February.
중국의 설은 며칠 동안 지속되고 1월이나 2월에 음력의 시작을 축하하는 거야.
We did many fun and meaningful things.
우리는 여러 가지 재미있고 의미 있는 일을 했어.
On New Year’s Eve, we had traditional New Year food for dinner.
설 전날 우리는 저녁으로 설 전통 음식을 먹었어.
My father boiled a chicken with the head and feet still on.
우리 아빠는 닭을 머리와 다리가 그대로 달린 채 삶으셨어.
The whole body represents togetherness.
온전한 몸은 단란함을 상징하거든.
Also, my mother made some dumplings and put a white thread inside one of them.
그리고 우리 엄마는 만두를 만드시고, 그중 하나에 흰 실을 넣으셨어.
During dinner, I found the white thread in my dumpling.
나는 저녁 식사 중에 내 만두에서 하얀 실을 발견했어.
My parents said, “It means you will live a long and healthy life!”
부모님께서 “그것은 네가 오래도록 건강하게 살 거라는 의미란다!”라고 말씀하셨어.
Later, we stayed up until midnight to watch fireworks.
그 후에, 우리는 불꽃놀이를 보려고 자정까지 깨어 있었어.
Chinese people believe the loud sounds of the fireworks scare away evil spirits.
중국 사람들은 불꽃놀이의 커다란 소리가 악령을 쫓아낸다고 믿거든.
On New Year’s Day, we visited my grandparents.
설날에는 조부모님을 찾아뵈었어.
They gave me a red envelope with some money inside.
조부모님께서 내게 돈이 들어있는 빨간 봉투를 주셨어.
Red envelopes are believed to bring good luck and health.
빨간 봉투는 행운이랑 건강을 가져온다고 믿어지고 있어.
Chinese traditions are so much fun.
중국 전통은 정말 재미있어.
