Because of their beautiful feathers, flamingos are one of the most recognizable birds on Earth.

홍학은 아름다운 깃털 때문에 지구에서 가장 눈에 띄는 새들 중 하나이다.

However, they are born with gray feathers.

하지만, 그들은 회색 깃털을 가지고 태어난다.

What changes their color?

무엇이 그들의 색을 바꿀까?

Adult flamingos are pink, orange, or white depending on the type of food that they eat.

다 자란 홍학은 그들이 먹는 먹이의 종류에 따라 분홍색이나 주황색, 흰색이다.

Some of their favorite foods are small sea creatures and plants such as shrimp and seaweed.

그들이 가장 좋아하는 먹이 중 몇몇은 새우와 해초 같은 작은 바다 생물과 식물이다.

These foods contain a special pigment that gives plants and animals their color.

이 먹이들은 동식물에 색을 주는 특별한 색소를 함유한다.

After flamingos eat these foods, this pigment becomes a pink or orange color and then gets stored in the flamingos’ legs, bills, and feathers.

홍학이 이 먹이들을 먹고 나면, 이 색소는 분홍색이나 주황색이 되고 그러고 나서 홍학의 다리와 부리, 깃털 속에 저장된다.

The more flamingos eat these sea creatures and plants, the pinker or more orange they become.

홍학이 이런 바다 생물과 식물들을 더 많이 먹으면 먹을수록, 그들은 더 진한 분홍색이나 주황색이 된다.

So you can see more colorful flamingos near the sea than near lakes.

그래서 당신은 호수 근처에서보다 바다 근처에서 더 색채가 풍부한 홍학을 볼 수 있다.

Many other foods that people eat, like carrots and watermelons, also contain this pigment.

However, people do not eat enough of them to change their skin color.

Human tears are made up mostly of water.

However, if you have ever tasted your own tears, you know that they taste salty.

This is because tears contain sodium chloride, which is the chemical name for salt.

Of course, tears mainly have a salty taste.

Interestingly, however, the taste of our tears changes a little depending on why we cry.

When we are angry, for example, we open our eyes wide and blink less.

Lastly, when you are happy, your tears become a little sweeter than other types of tears.

Unfortunately, you should not expect your happy tears to be as sweet as candy.
