The toughest sled dog race takes place each year in Alaska, United States.

It is the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

It starts in early March and lasts about ten days.

Racers drive sleds pulled by twelve to sixteen sled dogs across frozen rivers, *barren fields, and steep mountains.

The race covers about 1,850 kilometers, from Anchorage to Nome.
