Alaska is part of the United States, yet is separated from the mainland by Canada.

Nevertheless, Alaska is the largest state in the US, one fifth the size of the rest of the country.

The state is covered by huge glaciers and snow-topped mountains, including Mt. McKinley, the highest mountain in North America.
