The idea of eating samgyetang sounded good, but I didn’t want to try it all alone.

So I asked my friend Damil to join me, and then I committed to the experience.

With a delight only matched by children on Christmas morning, I blew on the soup to part the steam and catch my first glance of this tasty treat: a whole young chicken stuffed with ginseng, garlic, and rice, served in a clear broth.

I turned the chicken around and investigated it, looking for the most logical place to begin.

Still not knowing, I alternated between tender chicken, rice, and broth.
여전히 알지 못한 채로, 나는 부드러운 닭과 밥 그리고 국물 사이를 왔다갔다했다.
I ate every drop.
나는 국물 한 방울까지도 다 먹었다.
Damil wasn’t far behind me, and between the two of us, we ate the entire dish of kimchi, two peppers each and a whole lot of cucumbers.
Damil도 나와 그다지 다르지 않았고, 우리 둘이서 김치 한 접시, 고추 두 개씩, 그리고 오이 엄청 먹었다.
Needless to say, we filled the bone bucket with the empty chicken bones.
말할 필요도 없이, 우리는 뼈를 담는 바구니에 발라 낸 닭 뼈들을 채웠다.
We cleaned each dish on the table and stared at each other in amazement.
우리는 테이블 위에 각 접시를 비웠고 서로 놀라움에 바라보았다.
There we were, sweating, full and happy.
그곳에서 우리는 땀을 흘리며, 배부르고 행복했다.
Then we looked around.
그리고 나서 우리는 주변을 둘러보았다.
We were not alone.
우리는 혼자가 아니었다.
The whole restaurant was filled with people, eating and sweating, sweating and eating.
