I read an article about how animals are cruelly hunted and killed for their fur.

Also, animals at fur farms live in cages that are small, crowded, and dirty.

Paul Well, I disagree.

The conditions at chicken and pig farms are no better.

닭이나 돼지 농장의 환경이라고 해서 낫지는 않아.

So if you think that way, you should stop eating meat, too.

그런 식으로 생각한다면, 고기 먹는 것도 그만둬야 해.

How is killing animals for their meat different from killing them for their fur?

고기를 위해 동물을 죽이는 게 그들의 모피를 위해 죽이는 것과 어떻게 다르지?

Anne It’s the way they are killed.

Unlike pigs and chickens, these animals are often beaten to death or skinned alive.

돼지나 닭과 달리, 이들 동물은 종종 맞아 죽거나 산 채로 가죽이 벗겨져.

Some animals are badly injured by hunters’ traps or left to die in pain.

어떤 동물들은 사냥꾼들의 함정에 크게 다치거나 고통 속에서 죽어가.

Also, we need food, but not fur, to survive.

Paul People living in cold areas need to wear warm clothes to survive the cold.

Anne They don’t need fur to keep warm anymore, since there are other materials now, including fake fur.

And they’re not the only people who wear fur.

그리고 그들이 모피를 입는 유일한 사람들은 아냐.

Many people wear it only for fashion, and I don’t think it’s right to kill animals just for the sake of fashion.

많은 사람들이 그저 패션 때문에 모피를 입고, 패션만을 위해 동물들을 죽이는 것은 옳지 않다고 생각해.

Paul Okay. How about looking at it this way?

If the animals are killed for food anyway, why waste their fur?

Anne I think you’re getting fur confused with leather.

Animals killed for their fur, like mink, are not usually eaten by humans.

밍크처럼 모피를 위해 죽여지는 동물들은 보통 사람들이 먹지 않아.

Paul Well, there are two sides to every debate.
