Today’s Olympics originated from the ancient Greek Olympics.

The ancient Olympics started as a way to worship Zeus, king of the Greek gods.
고대 올림픽은 그리스 신들의 왕인 제우스 신을 숭배하는 하나의 방법으로써 시작했습니다.
They were part of a larger festival.
올림픽은 더 큰 축제의 부분이었습니다.
The games were very important to the Greeks.
올림픽 게임은 그리스인들에게 매우 중요했습니다.
Ancient Greece was made up of states that often fought with one another.
고대 그리스는 서로 자주 싸우는 주들로 이루어졌습니다.
Holding the Olympics reminded them that they were all Greeks.
올림픽을 여는 것은 그들에게 그들이 모두 같은 그리스인이라는 것을 상기해 줍니다.
A month before the event, they stopped fighting.

That way, people could travel to the games safely.

The rules were different from those of today’s Olympics.
