Taking care of people with Alzheimer's disease requires a lot of effort.

알츠하이머병 환자들을 돌보는 일은 많은 노력을 필요로 한다.

They tend to wander around a lot.

그들은 많이 돌아다니는 경향이 있다.

And, because of their memory problems, they easily forget where they are.

That's why Hogewey was created in the Netherlands in 2009.

Unlike usual nursing homes, it's a whole village where people with Alzheimer's can walk around, shop and socialize.

There are shops, cafes, restaurants and a movie theater.

This means its residents can wander around as much as they want.

Nurses and other employees wear normal clothes and act like villagers.

So if residents get lost or confused, there's always someone there to help them.

Hogewey has more than 150 residents and is staffed by about 250 employees.

Six to eight residents share an apartment in one of the village's 23 residential buildings.

Surprisingly, the cost per resident is not that much higher than at traditional nursing homes.

Above all, Hogewey gives patients a comfortable environment where they can enjoy some of the freedoms they have lost in their daily lives.

Moreover, Hogewey is changing how people think about Alzheimer by allowing its residents to live in a normal community.
