The Olympics are held every four years.

올림픽은 4년마다 열린다.

Soon after they finish, the Paralympics are held.

올림픽이 끝나면 곧 패럴림픽이 열린다.

The Paralympics are Olympics for physically disabled people.

패럴림픽은 신체장애인들을 위한 올림픽이다.

They include common sports events such as basketball and track and field.

거기에는 농구와 육상경기 같은 일반적인 경기들이 포함된다.

But there are also some unique games such as goalball.

하지만 골볼처럼 특이한 경기들도 있다.

Goalball is a sport that is played by blind people.

골볼은 시각 장애인들에 의해 이루어지는 경기이다.

There are three players on a team.

한 팀에는 세 명의 선수가 있다.

Each team tries to score points by rolling the ball past the other team's goal line.

각 팀은 상대 팀의 골라인 너머로 공을 굴려 점수를 얻으려 한다.

How do the blind players know where the ball is?

눈이 보이지 않는 선수들이 공이 어디 있는지 어떻게 알 수 있을까?

They listen to the sound of bells inside the ball.

그들은 공 안에 있는 방울의 소리를 듣는다.

When they hear the bells, they run towards the ball and try to stop it with their body.

방울 소리를 들으면, 그들은 공이 있는 쪽으로 달려가서 몸으로 공을 막으려고 한다.

Since the players cannot see and have to listen to the sounds, the people who are watching are told not to make any noise.

선수들이 앞을 볼 수 없고 소리를 들어야만 하기 때문에, 구경하는 사람들은 어떤 소리도 내지 말라고 당부받는다.

That's why cheering is only permitted after a goal is scored.

그것이 바로 환호성이 득점한 후에만 허용되는 이유이다.
