While doing some repairs on my roof, I suddenly slipped and hit my head hard.
At first, I thought I would recover after a short rest, so I lay down and tried to sleep.
However, when I woke up, I couldn’t feel part of my face.
I got nauseous and couldn’t speak clearly.
My sister carefully observed my condition and quickly looked up my symptoms online.
“You’re having a stroke,” she cried, and immediately drove me to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Later, I woke up in a hospital bed with my sister sitting beside me.
“You’re going to be okay,” she said, but she looked worried as she tried to reassure me.
I tried to sit up, but I couldn’t move my body at all.
Except for my eyes, I was completely paralyzed from head to toe, and I was overwhelmed with fear and confusion about my condition.
My mother found a way for me to communicate.
She wrote the alphabet on a board, and I spelled words by blinking when she pointed to the correct letters.
I managed to ask, “Will I get better?”
No one gave me a clear answer.
I couldn’t accept that, so I kept trying to move my thumb, believing that if I could move it, there was a chance I could recover.
For several weeks, I made no progress despite my effort to move.
However, one day, my thumb moved slightly for the first time.
My sister immediately noticed the small change and called a nurse over.
She pointed at my thumb and shouted, “It moved!”
The nurse explained that the doctors believed I would never move again.
But my sister didn’t tell me this because she wanted me to keep hope.
Thanks to her, I never gave up trying to recover.
