David boarded the bus to the train station and sent a quick text to his friends.

David는 기차역으로 가는 버스에 탑승하여 친구들에게 짧은 문자를 보냈다.

He put on his headphones, sank into his seat, and tapped his foot to the music, picturing the afternoon ahead.

그는 헤드폰을 끼고, 자리에 깊숙이 앉아 음악에 맞춰 발로 바닥을 툭툭 치며, 앞으로 펼쳐질 오후를 상상했다.

The familiar buildings rolled past the window, and he leaned back with his arms crossed.

낯익은 건물들이 창밖으로 스쳐 지나갔고, 그는 팔짱을 낀 채 몸을 뒤로 기댔다.

After a while, however, the streets outside began to look different.

그런데 얼마 후, 바깥 거리가 다르게 보이기 시작했다.

The bus turned onto roads he had never seen before, and the sidewalks were blocked by barriers and crowds of spectators.

버스는 전에 그가 한 번도 본 적이 없는 도로로 접어들었고, 인도는 차단막과 구경꾼 무리로 막혀 있었다.

He pulled off his headphones and glanced at the route display, then noticed a sign near the driver: “Route diverted due to city marathon.”

그는 헤드폰을 벗고 노선 안내판을 흘낏 본 다음, 운전기사 근처에 있는 표지판을 발견했다. ‘시내 마라톤으로 인해 노선 우회.’

David sat upright and opened the map on his phone, only to find that the station was far away from the bus’s new route.

David는 몸을 꼿꼿이 세우고 휴대전화상의 지도를 열었지만, 역이 버스의 새 노선에서 멀리 떨어져 있다는 것을 알게 되었을 뿐이었다.

He stared at the screen, his foot no longer tapping.

그는 화면을 응시했고, 그의 발은 더 이상 바닥을 툭툭 치지 않았다.
