Sophie slumped into a chair backstage, staring at the floor.

Sophie는 무대 뒤에서 의자에 털썩 주저앉아 바닥을 바라보았다.

During the second piece, her fingers had stumbled over the same passage twice, and the echo of those missed notes still rang in her ears.

두 번째 곡을 연주하는 동안 그녀의 손가락이 같은 악절에서 두 번 실수를 했고, 그 틀린 음들의 울림이 여전히 그녀의 귓가에 울렸다.

She folded and unfolded the corner of the page without looking up.

그녀는 고개를 들지 않은 채 악보 모서리를 접었다 폈다 했다.

After a while, her music teacher pulled a chair over and sat beside her.

잠시 후, 그녀의 음악 교사가 의자를 끌어당겨 그녀 옆에 앉았다.

“A few wrong notes don’t erase everything else.

“몇몇 틀린 음이 나머지 모든 것을 지워 버리지는 않아.

You held the rhythm perfectly in the final section.

너는 마지막 부분에서 박자를 완벽하게 지켰어.

Build from there.”

거기서부터 발전시켜 나가렴.”

Sophie looked up slowly, meeting her teacher’s gaze.

Sophie는 천천히 고개를 들어 교사의 시선과 마주쳤다.

Her teacher placed a hand on the sheet music, gave a quick nod, and walked away.

그녀의 교사는 악보 위에 손을 얹고, 빠르게 고개를 끄덕인 뒤 자리를 떠났다.

Sophie took a deep breath, opened the sheet music again, and circled a few difficult passages.

Sophie는 심호흡을 하고, 악보를 다시 펼쳐 몇몇 어려운 악절에 동그라미를 쳤다.

By the time she stood to leave, she held her shoulders higher than before.

그녀가 자리를 뜨기 위해 일어설 무렵에, 그녀는 전보다 어깨를 더 펴고 있었다.
