Most artists paint what they see.
Melissa McCracken, however, paints what she hears.
하지만 Melissa McCracken(멜리사 매크래켄)은 자신이 듣는 것을 그린다.
This is because she suffers from synesthesia.
It is a rare condition that causes the brain to mix up the way it perceives certain stimuli.
In McCracken’s case, she can spontaneously see colors when she hears sounds.
As a child, she assumed that everyone experienced sounds this way, but later she realized her brain worked a little differently.
Rather than getting upset about finding this out, McCracken decided to use it to her advantage.
Purchasing some art supplies, she began painting the amazing things that music and other everyday sounds caused her to see.
The results were highly abstract works of art filled with vibrant colors.
The paintings are beautiful on their own.
But once viewers understand how the artist created them, they become even more unique and special.
