People often believe that financial incentives will lead to better results.

A well-known example is a childcare center in Israel that began fining parents who were late to pick up their children.

Before the fine was introduced, parents were influenced by social norms that discouraged them from being late.

But once the fine was introduced, many parents thought it was okay to be late as long as they paid.
