FPTP 방식

The FPTP method is the simplest of the three methods.

FPTP 방식은 세 가지 방식 중 가장 간단하다.

Voters are given several options, and whichever gets the most first-preference votes wins.

투표자들에게는 여러 가지 선택지가 주어지고, 어떤 것이든 가장 많은 1지망 표를 얻은 것이 이긴다.

Neither the second nor third preference matters at all, so they are ignored.

2지망도 3지망도 둘 다 전혀 중요하지 않으므로, 그것들은 무시된다.

This method is commonly used in political elections around the world.

이 방식은 전 세계 정치 선거에서 흔히 사용된다.

The student council quickly determined that the winner would be option C, the charity concert.

학생 자치회는 빠르게 자선 콘서트인 선택지 C가 승자가 될 것임을 알아냈다.

This was because it received 8 first-preference votes, while option A received 5 and option B received 7.

이는 선택지 A는 5표, 선택지 B는 7표를 받은 반면, 그것은 8표의 1지망 표를 받았기 때문이었다.

The FPTP method is uncomplicated and easy to understand, but it has a significant weakness.

FPTP 방식은 복잡하지 않고 이해하기 쉽지만, 상당한 약점을 가지고 있다.

It is possible to win a vote without the support of the majority.

과반수의 지지 없이도 투표에서 승리하는 것이 가능하다.

That was the case here.

이것이 바로 그런 경우였다.

According to the results of the FPTP method, the council’s choice was to hold a charity concert.

FPTP 방식의 결과에 따르면, 자치회의 선택은 자선 콘서트를 개최하는 것이었다.

However, only 8 out of 20 council members chose the charity concert as their first preference, which equaled 40% of the total votes.

하지만 20명의 자치회 구성원 중 8명만이 1지망으로 자선 콘서트를 골랐는데, 이는 전체 표의 40%에 해당했다.
