(Minji) My role model is Jacques Cousteau, a French ocean explorer, inventor, and filmmaker.

(민지) 내 롤모델은 프랑스 해양 탐험가, 발명가, 영화 제작자인 Jacques Cousteau다.

He dedicated his life to exploring and documenting the wonders of the underwater world.

그는 수중 세계의 경이로움을 탐험하고 기록하는 데 그의 삶을 바쳤다.

As a young man, he dreamed of becoming a pilot, but then he broke both of his arms in a terrible car accident.

젊었을 때 그는 조종사가 되기를 꿈꿨지만, 끔찍한 교통사고로 두 팔이 모두 부러졌다.

As part of his physical therapy, Cousteau began swimming.

Cousteau는 물리 치료의 일환으로 수영을 시작했다.

He became intrigued by the mysteries of the ocean, and he wanted to explore further.

그는 해양의 신비로움에 호기심을 가지게 되었고, 더 깊이 탐험하고 싶어 했다.

However, the diving equipment available at that time was insufficient.

Instead of giving up, Cousteau decided to create his own equipment.

After a long series of failed attempts, he finally succeeded in developing a portable breathing device, which he called the “Aqua-Lung.”

Cousteau shared his underwater experiences with the world in a compelling documentary film released in 1956.

It transformed people’s perceptions of the ocean and promoted the need for marine conservation.
