How many basic colors are there in a rainbow?

무지개에는 얼마나 많은 기본 색상이 있는가?

Most people would likely say that there are seven.

대부분의 사람은 아마 일곱 가지라고 말할 것이다.

However, the colors that are included can differ from culture to culture.

그러나 무지개에 포함된 색은 문화마다 다를 수 있다.

Furthermore, some cultures don't even agree that there are seven basic colors in a rainbow.

게다가 어떤 문화는 심지어 무지개에 일곱 가지 기본 색상이 있다는 사실조차 동의하지 않는다.

Does this mean that some people can see colors that others can't?

이것이 어떤 사람은 다른 사람이 볼 수 없는 색을 볼 수 있다는 의미일까?

Of course not!

The human eye works the same way for almost everyone.

인간의 눈은 거의 모든 사람에게 동일한 방식으로 작동한다.

So what causes these differences in perception?

One reason could be the language a person speaks.

한 가지 이유는 그 사람이 말하는 언어 때문일 수 있다.

Studies have shown that our language can have a major impact on how we perceive and identify colors.

연구들은 우리가 색을 인식하고 구분하는 방식에 언어가 큰 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 것을 보여주었다.
