There are many famous artists who are known all around the world, such as Monet and Picasso.

모네와 피카소 등 전 세계에 알려진 수많은 유명 예술가가 있다.

Most folk artists, on the other hand, are unknown, and their work is often seen as simple and irrelevant.

반면에 대부분의 민속 예술가는 잘 알려지지 않았고, 그들의 작품은 단순하고 중요하지 않은 것으로 여겨지는 경우가 많다.

However, folk art is important because it has a deep connection to the society that produced it.

그러나 민속 예술은 그것이 제작된 사회와 깊은 관련이 있기 때문에 중요하다.

In Korea, folk art is known as minhwa.

한국에서, 민속 예술은 민화라고 알려져 있다.

Chaekgeori: Minhwa with Foreign Influences

책거리: 외국의 영향을 받은 민화

Minhwa has existed for hundreds of years.

민화는 수백 년 동안 존재해 왔다.

In the late 18th century, during the Joseon Dynasty era, people began producing and selling minhwa on a large scale.

18세기 후반 조선 시대에, 사람들은 민화를 대규모로 생산하고 판매하기 시작했다.

At the same time, trade with other countries brought new goods and ideas to Korea.

동시에, 다른 나라와의 무역은 한국으로 새로운 상품과 사상을 들여왔다.

This led to an interesting theme in minhwa―chaekgeori.

그것은 민화의 흥미로운 주제인 책거리로 이어졌다.

Chaekgeori literally means "books and things."

책거리는 말 그대로 '책과 사물'을 의미한다.

Chaekgeori art was basically screen paintings of bookshelves.

책거리 예술은 기본적으로 책꽂이를 그린 병풍 그림이었다.
