Another popular minhwa theme was kkachi horangi, which can be translated as "magpie and tiger."

Unlike chaekgeori paintings, these paintings were popular with common people.

책거리 그림들과 다르게, 이 그림은 평민들에게 인기 있었다.

Both magpies and tigers were believed to bring good luck.

까치와 호랑이는 둘 다 행운을 가져다준다고 생각되었다.

Therefore, hanging these pictures in a home was thought to chase away evil.

그러므로, 이 그림을 집에 걸어 놓는 것은 악한 기운을 쫓아낸다고 여겨졌다.

However, there was another purpose as well―humor.
