Holly was in the family garden.

Holly는 가족 정원에 있었어요.

Her parents were watering the flowers, and she was helping them.

부모님이 꽃에 물을 주고 있었고, 그녀는 그들을 도와주고 있었어요.

It was fun.

재미있었어요.

But then she saw a big earthworm.

그런데 그때 그녀는 커다란 지렁이를 봤어요.

Holly screamed and jumped away.

Holly는 비명을 지르며 뛰어 물러났어요.

"Don't be afraid," said her mother.

"무서워하지 마," 엄마가 말했어요.

"Earthworms are our friends.

"지렁이는 우리 친구야.

They help our garden."

그들은 우리 정원을 도와줘."

"How?" asked Holly.

"어떻게요?" Holly가 물었어요.

"Earthworms make holes in the soil," explained her mother.

"지렁이들은 흙에 구멍을 만들어," 엄마가 설명했어요.

"Air and water move through the holes.

"공기와 물이 그 구멍을 통해 이동해.

This makes the soil healthy.

이것이 흙을 건강하게 만들어 줘.

Plants need healthy soil to grow."

식물들은 자라기 위해 건강한 흙이 필요해."

"Earthworms also eat dead leaves," said her father.

"지렁이들은 죽은 잎사귀도 먹어," 아빠가 말했어요.

"Then their waste becomes food for other plants.

"그 다음 그들의 배설물이 다른 식물들의 거름이 돼.

They're like tiny farmers."

그들은 마치 작은 농부 같은 거야."

Holly was very surprised.

Holly는 매우 놀랐어요.

The next day, she saw another earthworm.

다음 날, 그녀는 또 다른 지렁이를 봤어요.

But she didn't scream.

그런데 비명을 지르지 않았어요.

Instead, she said, "Thank you."

대신, 그녀는 "고마워"라고 말했어요.
