Long ago, there was a selfish baboon.

옛날에, 이기적인 개코원숭이가 있었어요.

He guarded a water hole, so other animals couldn't drink there.

그는 물웅덩이를 지켜서 다른 동물들이 그곳에서 물을 마실 수 없었어요.

He even built a fire and guarded the water hole at night.

그는 심지어 불을 피우고 밤에도 물웅덩이를 지켰어요.

One day, a zebra arrived.

어느 날, 얼룩말이 도착했어요.

Back then, the zebra had white fur without stripes.

그 당시에 얼룩말은 줄무늬 없이 흰 털을 가지고 있었어요.

As he came near, the baboon jumped up.

그가 가까이 오자, 개코원숭이가 벌떡 일어났어요.

"Go away!" he said.

"저리 가!" 그가 말했어요.

The zebra was angry.

얼룩말은 화가 났어요.

"This water is for everyone," he yelled.

"이 물은 모두를 위한 거야," 그가 소리쳤어요.

They started to fight.

그들은 싸우기 시작했어요.

Suddenly, the zebra kicked the baboon hard.

갑자기, 얼룩말이 개코원숭이를 세게 발로 찼어요.

They both fell into the baboon's fire.

그들은 모두 개코원숭이의 불 속으로 떨어졌어요.

The zebra burned his fur and the baboon burned his bottom.

얼룩말은 털이 탔고 개코원숭이는 엉덩이가 탔어요.

That's why the zebra has black stripes and the baboon has a red bottom.

그것이 바로 얼룩말에게 검은 줄무늬가 있고 개코원숭이에게 빨간 엉덩이가 있는 이유예요.
