Every culture has traditional stories about imaginary creatures.

모든 문화는 상상의 동물에 관한 전통적인 이야기가 있다.

These creatures include trolls.

이 상상의 동물은 트롤을 포함한다.

You might see trolls in movies or read about them in books.

당신은 영화에서 트롤을 보거나 책에서 그들에 대해 읽을지도 모른다.

But, how much do you really know about them?

하지만, 당신은 그들에 대해 정말로 얼마나 많이 알고 있는가?

Trolls originally came from traditional Scandinavian stories.

트롤은 원래 스칸디나비아의 전통적인 이야기에서 나왔다.

In these stories, there are two kinds of trolls, giant trolls and little trolls.

이 이야기들에는 거대한 트롤과 작은 트롤이라는 두 종류의 트롤이 있다.

Giant trolls are bigger than people.

거대한 트롤은 사람보다 더 크다.

Their bodies are usually made of stone, and their hair looks like small trees.

그들의 몸은 보통 돌로 만들어졌고, 머리카락은 작은 나무처럼 보인다.

Therefore, people often mistake giant trolls for rocks.

그래서, 사람들은 자주 거대한 트롤들을 바위로 착각한다.

On the other hand, little trolls look more like people.

Don’t be fooled though!

그렇지만 속지 마라!

They have tails, but often hide them under their clothing.

그들은 꼬리가 있는데, 그것들을 자주 옷 밑에 숨긴다.

That is why people often think they are humans.

그것이 사람들이 자주 그들을 인간이라고 생각하는 이유이다.

Trolls have magical powers.

트롤은 마법의 힘을 가지고 있다.

Sometimes they use them to help people.

때때로 트롤은 사람들을 돕기 위해 마법의 힘을 사용한다.

At other times, however, trolls try to hurt people.

그러나, 다른 때에는, 트롤들이 사람들을 해치려고 한다.

But don’t worry!

Trolls are not very smart, so fooling them is quite easy.

트롤은 그렇게 똑똑하지 않아서, 그들을 속이는 것은 꽤 쉽다.

In some parts of Africa, goats climb trees.

아프리카의 어떤 지역에서, 염소들은 나무를 오른다.

Why?

왜 그럴까?

The answer is very simple.

답은 매우 간단하다.

It’s because they want to eat the fruit on the trees!

왜냐하면 그들은 나무에 있는 열매를 먹고 싶기 때문이다!

In southwestern Morocco, in North Africa, it is very hot and dry, so most trees cannot survive.

북아프리카의 모로코 남서부는, 매우 덥고 건조해서, 대부분의 나무가 살아남을 수 없다.

Only argan trees grow well here and argan fruit is the only food for goats.

오직 아르간 나무만이 이곳에서 잘 자라며 아르간 열매가 염소들에게 유일한 먹이이다.

But climbing up these trees is not easy for them.

그러나 이 나무들에 오르는 것은 염소에게 쉽지 않다.

Argan trees are eight to ten meters high, so they are too tall for goats.

아르간 나무는8에서10미터 높이여서,염소들에게는 너무 높다.

The trees even have many sharp thorns.

그 나무들은 심지어 날카로운 가시가 많다.

Against all these difficulties, the goats must climb the argan trees to live!

이 모든 어려움에 맞서, 염소들은 살기 위해 아르간 나무를 올라야만 한다!

When the goats eat the argan fruit, they eat it whole.

염소들이 아르간 열매를 먹을 때, 그들은 그것을 통째로 먹는다.

But their bodies can’t digest the nut.

그러나 그들의 몸은 씨를 소화하지 못한다.

The nut finally comes out in their droppings.

씨는 결국 그들의 똥으로 나온다.

People found that goat droppings were useful.

사람들은 염소 똥이 유용하다는 것을 알아냈다.

They collect them to produce argan oil from the nuts.

They make delicious food with this oil.
