After a long time, he came to a high green hill, and the house was at the top.
오랜 시간 후에 그는 높고 푸른 언덕에 왔고 그 집은 꼭대기에 있었다.
It seemed that the shutters were closed, for he could not see the golden windows.
덧문이 닫힌 것처럼 보였는데, 왜냐하면 그가 금으로 된 창문을 볼 수 없었기 때문이었다.
He came up to the house and was disappointed to find that the windows were made of clear glass, like any others, and there was no gold anywhere around them.
그는 그 집으로 가서 창문들이 다른 것들과 마찬가지로 투명한 유리로 만들어졌으며 그 창문들 주변 어디에도 금은 없다는 것을 알고 실망했다.
A woman came to the door, looked kindly at the boy, and asked him what he wanted.
한 여자가 문으로 와서 소년을 친절하게 바라보았고 그에게 무엇을 원하는지 물었다.
“I saw the golden windows from the top of our hill,” he said, “and I came to see them, but now they are only glass.”
“저는 저희 쪽 언덕 꼭대기에서 금으로 된 창문을 봤어요. 그리고 그것들을 보러 왔지만 지금은 그저 유리일 뿐이에요.”라고 그가 말했다.
The woman shook her head and laughed.
그 여성은 고개를 흔들고 웃었다.
“We are poor farming people,” she said, “and are not likely to have windows made of gold; but glass is better to see through.”
“우리는 가난한 농부들이고 우리가 금으로 만들어진 창문을 가졌을 것 같지 않구나. 하지만 유리는 들여다보기에 더 좋지.”라고 그녀가 말했다.
She told the boy to sit down on the step in front of the door, brought him a snack, and called her daughter, a girl of his own age.
그녀는 소년에게 문 앞의 계단에 앉으라고 말하고 그에게 간식을 가져다준 뒤 그와 비슷한 나이의 소녀인 그녀의 딸을 불렀다.
Then she smiled at the two and went back to her work.
