It was King Peleus and Thetis’s wedding day.

Every god and goddess was invited, except for Eris, the goddess of discord.

Filled with anger, Eris decided to stir up some trouble.

She showed up at the wedding and hurled a golden apple into the crowd.

Written on it were the words “To the fairest.“

Immediately, three goddesses—Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite—claimed the apple as theirs.

They asked Zeus, the king of all gods, to decide who the rightful owner of the apple was.

However, Zeus was unable to make such a difficult choice.

So he called upon Prince Paris of Troy to choose who was the most beautiful.

Paris was well known for being fair when making decisions.
