Arles, the City of Light and Art

아를, 빛과 예술의 도시

Certain artists are so closely linked with particular places / that it is hard to separate them.

어떤 예술가들은 특정 장소와 너무나 밀접하게 연관되어 있어서 / 그들을 분리하기 어렵다.

Arles and Van Gogh are like that.

아를과 반 고흐는 그러하다.

Arles is located five hours southeast of Paris / and is well known for its magical light and colorful landscape.

아를은 파리에서 남동쪽으로 5시간 거리에 위치해 있으며 / 마법 같은 빛과 색채로운 풍경으로 잘 알려져 있다.

The most famous resident of this town was Vincent van Gogh.

이 마을의 가장 유명한 주민은 빈센트 반 고흐였다.

Leaving behind the gray skies of Paris, / he arrived in Arles in 1888.

파리의 회색 하늘을 뒤로하고, / 그는 1888년 아를에 도착했다.

The town inspired an explosion of creativity.

이 마을은 창의성의 폭발을 불러일으켰다.

Vincent claimed, / "The whole future of art is to be found in the south of France."

He worked enthusiastically / and produced nearly 200 paintings in just fifteen months.
