He made sure everything was documented properly by creating records for the procession and the construction of Hwaseong Fortress.

정조는 행차와 화성 축성에 대해 기록을 남기도록 해서 모든 것이 제대로 기록되도록 확실히 했어요.

These construction records were especially a lifesaver when the fortress was damaged during wartime.

이러한 축성 기록은 특히 전란으로 성곽이 훼손되었을 때 큰 도움이 되었어요.

They were even part of why UNESCO recognized Hwaseong Fortress as a World Heritage Site.

이 기록은 유네스코가 화성을 세계문화 유산으로 인정한 이유 중 하나이기도 해요.

At first, the people at UNESCO were a bit unsure about recognizing Hwaseong Fortress as the real deal.

처음에 유네스코 사람들은 화성을 진짜로 인정하는 것에 대해 다소 의구심을 가졌어요.

They weren’t totally convinced it was authentic.

화성이 진품이라는 것을 완전히 확신하지 못했기 때문이죠.

But after checking out translated documents and comparing them with the restored fortress, they finally came around and agreed that the fortress had actually been restored just the way it was meant to be.

하지만 번역된 문서를 확인하고 복원된 성곽과 비교한 후, 결국 생각을 바꿔 화성이 원래의 모습 그대로 복원되었다는 것에 동의하게 되었어요.

And among the records of the procession, there are these amazing paintings.

그리고 행차에 대한 기록 중에는 놀라운 그림들이 있어요.

One painting, Hwaneo Haengryeoldo, doesn’t just feature the king’s crew, but it also shows ordinary people watching along the road.

‘환어행렬도’라는 그림에는 왕의 수행원뿐만 아니라 길을 따라 구경하는 일반 백성들의 모습도 그려져 있어요.

It’s a different take from the usual art of that time, which only focused on important figures.

이는 중요한 인물에만 초점을 맞추던 당시의 일반적인 미술과는 다른 접근 방식입니다.

So being kind to the people was a big deal for kings of the Joseon Dynasty.

이처럼 조선 시대 왕들에게는 백성을 친절하게 대하는 것이 중요한 일이었어요.

King Jeongjo’s 1795 procession and Hwaseong Fortress stand as proof of that spirit.

정조대왕의 1795년 행차와 화성은 그 정신의 증거입니다.

Hwaseong is more than just a fortress; it symbolizes a king who cared for his people.

화성은 단순한 요새가 아니라 백성을 돌보던 왕을 상징하지요.

And this is a significant part of Korean cultural heritage.
