(Eunji) Hi, everyone, I’m Eunji. I’m at Gangneung Station.

(은지) 안녕하세요, 여러분, 저는 은지예요. 저는 지금 강릉역에 있어요.

I am here to meet my friend Rebecca and her brother Paul.

친구 Rebecca와 그녀의 남동생 Paul을 만나러 여기 왔어요.

Oh, there they are!

아, 저기 있네요!

(Rebecca) It’s so good to see you again!

(Rebecca) 다시 만나서 정말 반가워!

I’m excited to look around Gangneung together.

같이 강릉을 구경할 생각에 신나.

Jeongdongjin Rail Bike Tour

정동진 레일 바이크 투어

(Eunji) We are at Jeongdongjin.

(은지) 우리는 정동진에 있어요.

We are riding a rail bike before we have lunch.

점심을 먹기 전에 레일 바이크를 타고 있어요.

The rail runs along the beach, so the view is nice.

레일이 해변을 따라 달려서 경치가 정말 좋아요.

(Rebecca) You can say that again. Look at the blue sea!

(Rebecca) 네 말이 맞아. 저 파란 바다 좀 봐!

(Paul) It’s beautiful.

(Paul) 정말 아름다워.

The rail bike is also powered by electricity. Let’s try it!

이 레일 바이크는 전기로도 움직인대. 한번 해 보자!

(Eunji) Wow, it’s getting faster.

(은지) 우와, 점점 빨라지고 있어.

Gangneung Central Market

강릉 중앙시장

(Eunji) We are now at the Gangneung Central Market.

(은지) 지금 우리는 강릉 중앙시장에 있어요.

This is a traditional market that sells many kinds of delicious food.

여기는 다양한 맛있는 음식을 파는 전통 시장이에요.

We ordered ongsimi and makguksu.

우리는 옹심이랑 막국수를 주문했어요.

Ongsimi is hot soup with potato balls and makguksu is cold buckwheat noodles.

옹심이는 감자옹심이가 들어간 뜨거운 국물 요리고, 막국수는 차가운 메밀국수예요.

(Rebecca) Paul, which do you prefer, ongsimi or makguksu?

(Rebecca) Paul, 너는 옹심이랑 막국수 중에 뭐가 더 좋아?

(Paul) I prefer ongsimi. The potato balls are chewy and delicious.

(Paul) 나는 옹심이가 더 좋아. 감자옹심이가 쫄깃하고 맛있어.

They also look cute.

그리고 모양도 귀여워.

(Rebecca) I like makguksu. The noodles are spicy and tasty.

(Rebecca) 나는 막국수가 좋아. 면이 매콤하고 맛있어.

(Eunji) Do you want to try sundubu ice cream for dessert?

(은지) 디저트로 순두부 아이스크림 먹어볼래?

Sundubu is soft tofu.

순두부는 부드러운 두부야.

(Paul) You mean the ice cream is made from soft tofu?

(Paul) 그럼 아이스크림이 부드러운 두부로 만들어졌다는 거야?

(Eunji) Yes. I believe it was invented by people in the Gangneung area.

(은지) 맞아. 강릉 지역 사람들이 발명한 것이라고 생각해.

(Rebecca) I’m so excited to try it!

(Rebecca) 먹어 볼 생각에 정말 신나!

Danoje Festival

단오제 축제

(Eunji) Okay everyone, we are at the Danoje Festival.

(은지) 자, 모두들. 우리는 단오제 축제에 있어요.

It celebrates the day of Dano.

그것은 단오를 기념해요.

People in the past wished for a good harvest on this day after they planted rice.

과거에 사람들은 벼를 심은 후 풍년을 기원했어요.

Interesting events are taking place here.

여기에서는 재미있는 행사들이 열리고 있어요.

(Paul) Look! Two men are trying to bring each other to the ground.

(Paul) 저기 봐! 두 남자가 서로를 넘어뜨리려고 하고 있어.

What are they playing?

그들은 뭘 하는 거지?

(Eunji) They are playing traditional Korean wrestling.

(은지) 그들은 전통 한국 레슬링을 하고 있어.

It is called ssireum.

씨름이라고 불러.

(Rebecca) I want to wash my hair in changpo water after we watch ssireum.

(Rebecca) 씨름을 구경한 후에는 창포물로 머리를 감아보고 싶어.

I heard it will make our hair shiny.

창포물은 머리카락을 윤기 나게 한다고 들었어.

(Eunji) That’s true. Changpo is a traditional herb.

(은지) 맞아. 창포는 전통적인 약초야.

In the past, people believed that it kept bad luck away!

예전에는 사람들이 이 약초가 나쁜 운을 물리친다고 믿었어!

(Paul) Sounds wonderful!

(Paul) 굉장해!

(Eunji) We are walking on Anmok Beach.

(은지) 우리는 안목 해변을 걷고 있어요.

Can you hear the waves and music from the cafes?

파도 소리와 카페에서 울리는 음악이 들리죠?

I hope you can also feel this pleasant energy of nature and culture.
