According to the law of demand, / when the price of an item goes up, / people tend to buy less of it.

They are called Veblen goods.

Veblen goods / are named after Thorstein Veblen, / an economist / who developed the theory of “conspicuous consumption.”

The theory says that / the demand for certain goods increases / as their prices rise.
