Let’s say / a pen cost $1 / two years ago.

예를 들어 말해보자 / 펜 하나가 1달러였다고 / 2년 전에

But now the price of the same pen / is $1.20.

This means / you need more money / to buy the same product.

A gradual increase in prices like this / is called inflation.

Inflation usually happens / when there is more demand than supply.

For example, / imagine 10 people want to buy a cake.

But the bakery can make only seven.

In this case, / the bakery may raise / the price of the cake.

They know / that some customers / will be willing to pay more / for it.

Inflation also has other causes.

When the cost of ingredients / like butter and eggs / increases, / the bakery has to raise / the prices of its products, / including the cake.

Is inflation a bad thing?

Very high inflation is generally considered harmful / to the economy.

But moderate inflation is completely normal.
