Theater actors have an interesting job.

During a performance, / actors become the characters / they play.

They are in a different world / from ours.

A “curtain call” is a special tradition / in the dramatic arts.

This tradition started / about 200 years ago.

In the 1800s, / theater became popular / in Europe.

When a performance ended, / the audience often wanted to see the actors / one more time.

So they called for the actors / to return.
