Comuna 13 is a poor section of Medellin, the second-largest city in Colombia.

Comuna 13(코무나 13)은 콜롬비아에서 두 번째로 큰 도시인 Medellin(메데인)의 가난한 구역이다.

It is located on a steep hillside.

그곳은 가파른 언덕 비탈에 위치해 있다.

Many Comuna 13 residents had to climb hundreds of steps every day just to travel to and from their homes.

But not anymore.

Thanks to the construction of a 384-meter-long outdoor escalator, they can now easily travel up and down the hill.

This useful escalator is free to ride.

이 유용한 에스컬레이터는 탑승이 무료이다.

Before it was built, it took 35 minutes to walk to the top.

But now it’s possible to do so in six minutes.

At first, people using the escalator weren’t protected from the rain or hot sun.

처음에는 에스컬레이터를 사용하는 사람들이 비 혹은 뜨거운 햇빛으로부터 보호받지 못했다.

As a solution, city officials eventually added an orange roof.

해결책으로 시 공무원들은 마침내 주황색 지붕을 추가했다.

A simple escalator changed Medellin for the better!
