De-icing products allow us to safely walk on sidewalks and drive on roads after winter storms.

However, they harm the environment.

They contain chemicals that are bad for the soil.

These chemicals can also cause problems for fish if they flow into lakes and streams.

Fortunately, people have made alternatives to these harmful chemicals.

It is made from volcanic minerals.
