Why do snowy nights seem so calm and peaceful?

왜 눈 내리는 밤은 무척 고요하고 평화로워 보일까?

It’s because snow makes everything quieter!

그것은 눈이 모든 것을 더 조용하게 만들기 때문이다!

The shape of snowflakes makes this possible.

눈송이의 모양이 이것을 가능하게 한다.

They have six sides.

눈송이는 6개의 변을 가지고 있다.

Each side has lots of empty spaces.

각 변에는 많은 빈 공간이 있다.

These spaces absorb sound waves.

이 공간들은 음파를 흡수한다.

As a result, everything nearby becomes quieter.

그 결과, 인근의 모든 것이 더 조용해진다.

As the snow melts, the spaces in the snowflakes get smaller.

눈이 녹으면서, 눈송이 속의 공간은 더 작아진다.

This changes the shape of the snowflakes.

이것이 눈송이의 모양을 바꾼다.

When the melting snow freezes again, the snowflakes completely lose their special ability.

녹은 눈이 얼면, 다시 그 눈송이는 그것의 특별한 능력을 모조리 잃는다.

They become an icy surface and reflect sound waves instead.

눈송이는 얼음 표면이 된다 그리고 그 대신 음파를 반사한다.

This actually makes sounds seem louder.

이는 실제로 소리를 더 크게 들리게 한다.
