Imagine that your friend asks you to have dinner.

However, you already have plans for the evening.

How can you offer to have dinner on a different day?

Some people would say, “I’ll take a rain check.”

어떤 사람들은 말할 것이다 “I’ll take a rain check. (다음을 기약할게.)”

This means that although you can’t accept the offer now, you will in the future.

But why is rain check used to refuse someone’s invitation?

The phrase comes from American baseball.

People often buy tickets to watch the game.

Most baseball games are played outside, so they can be canceled or delayed because of heavy rain.

In the past when this happened, teams gave ticket holders a rain check.
