Did you know / that sharks sleep?

알고 있었는가 / 상어가 잠을 잔다는 것을

Sharks need / time / to rest like any other animal, / but / their sleep is very different / from ours.

상어는 필요하다 / 시간이 / 다른 여느 동물들처럼 휴식을 취할 / 하지만 / 그들의 잠은 매우 다르다 / 우리의 잠과

Unlike humans, / sharks can’t lie down / and / close their eyes.

인간과 달리, / 상어는 누울 수 없다 / 그리고 / 눈을 감을 수 없다

They need / to keep swimming.

그들은 ~ 해야 한다 / 계속 헤엄을 쳐야

If they’re not swimming, / they can’t breathe!

그들이 헤엄치지 않으면, / 그들은 숨을 쉴 수 없다

When sharks want to sleep, / they do / something called yoyo swimming.

상어가 잠을 자고 싶을 때, / 그들은 한다 / 요요 헤엄이라고 불리는 것을

This means / that they stop actively swimming / and / let themselves slowly sink / to the bottom of the ocean.

Then / they swim back up / to the surface / and / sink back down again.

While the sharks are slowly sinking / towards the bottom of the ocean, / they are able to get some sleep.
