The term “dog days” came from the ancient Greeks.
‘dog days’라는 용어는 고대 그리스인들로부터 왔다.
Long ago, they watched the brightest star in Canis Major.
오래전에, 그들은 큰개자리에 있는 가장 밝은 별을 관찰했다.
Its name is Sirius, but it is also known as the dog star.
그것의 이름은 시리우스이다, 하지만 dog star(천랑성)로도 알려져 있다.
During the hottest part of summer, Sirius is very close to the sun.

It rises and sets with the sun as well.

Therefore, the ancient Greeks believed the hot weather was caused by these two stars.
