The Amazing Rising Water

신비한 솟아 오르는 물

안녕하세요, 여러분.

Today, I'm going to show you something amazing.

오늘, 저는 여러분에게 놀라운 무언가를 보여 주려고 합니다.

Here's a dish with water in it.

여기에 물이 담긴 접시가 있습니다.

Now, I'll put a candle in the middle of the dish.

이제, 저는 접시 한가운데에 초를 놓을 것입니다.

Next, I'll light the candle and cover it with a glass.

그다음에 초를 켜고 유리컵으로 초를 덮어 보겠습니다.

"Abracadabra!"

"아브라카다브라!"

Look at the water!

물을 보세요!

How come it rose into the glass?

어째서 물이 유리컵 속으로 올라간 거지요?

Air expands when it gets hot and creates higher pressure.

공기가 뜨거워지면 팽창해서, 더 높은 압력을 만듭니다.

When it gets cold, air contracts and creates lower pressure.

공기가 차가워 지면 수축해서, 더 낮은 압력을 만듭니다.

When the flame burnt out, the air inside the glass cooled down.

불꽃이 다 타 버렸을 때, 유리컵 속의 공기는 식어 버렸습니다.

As the air cooled down, the air pressure dropped.

공기가 식었으므로, 기압이 낮아졌습니다.

So the air outside the glass was at a higher pressure.

그래서 유리컵 밖의 공기 압력이 더 높아졌습니다.

It pushed the water into the glass.

높아진 압력의 공기가 물을 밀어서 유리컵으로 들어가게 된 것입니다.
