1. Creation (Genesis 1-2)

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

태초에 하나님이 하늘들과 땅을 만드셨습니다.

The earth was empty, formless, and dark but the Spirit of God was there.

땅은 공허하고 형태가 없고 캄캄했지만 하나님이 신이 거기에 계셨습니다.

On the first day, God said, “Let there be light.”

첫째날에 하나님이 말씀하셨습니다. "빛이 있으라"

And God saw that the light was good.

그리고 하나님은 빛이 보기에 좋았습니다.

Then, he separated the light from the darkness.

그런 다음, 하나님께서 빛을 어둠과 나누셨습니다.

God called the light day and the darkness night.

하나님은 빛을 낮이라 하셨고, 어둠을 밤이라 하셨습니다.

On the second day, God said,
“Let there be a space to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth.

둘째날에 하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다.
"하늘의 물과 땅의 물이 나뉘어져서 공간이 생기게 되어라."

God called the space sky.

하나님께서는 그 공간을 하늘이라고 부르셨습니다.

On the third day, God said, “Let the waters beneath the sky flows together into one place, so dry ground may appear.”

셋째날에 하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다.
"하늘 아래에 물들이 함께 모여 한 곳으로 흐르고, 마른 땅이 드러나라."

God called the dry ground land and the waters seas.

하나님께서는 마른 땅을 육지라 하시고, 물들을 바다라 하셨습니다.

And God saw that it was good.

그리고 그것은 하나님께서 보시기에 좋았습니다.

Then, God said, “Let the land sprout with every sort of plant and tree.”

그런 다음, 하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다.
"땅이 싹을 틔워 모든 종류의 식물과 나무를 내라"

And God saw that it was good.

그리고 그것은 하나님께서 보시기에 좋았습니다.

On the fourth day, God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night.

넷째날에 하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다.
"하늘에서 빛이 있어서 밤과 낮을 나뉘게 하라."

God made two great lights, the sun for the day and the moon for the night.

하나님께서는 두 개의 큰 빛을 만드셨습니다.
낮에는 태양을, 밤에는 달을.

He also made the stars.

그는 또한 별들을 만드셨습니다.

God set these lights in the sky to light the earth.

하나님께서 이런 빛들을 하늘에 두셔서 땅을 비취게 했습니다.

And God saw that it was good.

그리고 그것은 하나님께서 보시기에 좋았습니다.

God said, “Let the water swarm with fish and other life, but the skies be filled with birds of every kind.”

하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다.
"물은 물고기와 다른 생물로 가득차고, 하늘은 모든 종류의 새로 가득차라."

And God saw that it was good.

그리고 그것은 하나님께서 보시기에 좋았습니다.

On the sixth day, God said, “Let the earth make every sort of animal.”

여섯째 날에 하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다.
"땅은 모든 종류의 동물들을 내라."

God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to have babies of the same kind.

하나님께서 모든 종류의 야생동물, 가축, 작은 동물을 만드셨고, 각각 그 종류대로 새끼들을 낳을 수 있게 하셨습니다.

And God saw that it was good.

그리고 그것은 하나님께서 보시기에 좋았습니다.

Then, God said, “Let us make man in our image to be like us.”

그런 다음, 하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다.
"우리가 우리의 모양을 따라 우리의 형상대로 사람을 만들자."

So God created man in his own image.

그래서 하나님은 당신의 형상대로 사람을 만드셨습니다.

He formed man from the dust of the ground.

하나님께서는 땅의 흙에서 사람을 만드셨습니다.

He breathed the breath of life into man and a man became alive.

그는 생명의 숨을 사람에게 불어넣으셔서 사람이 살아있게 되었습니다.

Then, He saw that the man needed a helper, so God put man into a deep sleep.

그런 다음, 하나님께서는 사람에게 돕는 자가 필요한 것을 보시고서 사람을 깊은 잠이 들게 하셨습니다.

And while he slept, God took one of the man’s ribs.

그리고 그가 잠들었을 때, 하나님께서 사람의 갈빗대를 하나 취하셨습니다.

Then God made a woman from the rib and brought her to the man.

그러고나서 하나님께서 취한 갈빗대로 여자를 만드셨고, 그녀를 남자에게 데려가셨습니다.

Then, God blessed him and said, “Be fruitful and multiply.

그런 다음, 하나님께서 그에게 축복하시며 말씀하셨습니다.
"생육하고 번성하라.

Fill the earth and rule over it.

땅에 충만하고 땅을 다스려라.

Rule over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.“

바다에 물고기와 하늘에 새와 땅에 다니는 모든 동물들을 다스려라."

Then God said, “Look. I have given you every plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.

그런 다음 하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다.
"보라. 내가 네게 땅에서 나는 모든 식물과 열매맺는 나무를 너의 음식으로 주겠다.

And I have given you every green plant as food for all the animals.“

그리고 내가 모든 푸른 풀을 모든 동물들의 음식으로 주겠다."

Then God looked over all he had made.

그런 다음 하나님께서 당신이 만드시 모든 것을 바라보셨습니다.

And he saw that it was very good.

그리고 그것은 하나님께서 보시기에 매우 좋았습니다.

So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was done.

그래서 하늘과 땅과 그 안에 모든 것을 다 창조되었습니다.

So on the seventh day, God rested from all his work.

그래서 일곱째 날에 하나님께서 그 모든 일을 하시고 쉬셨습니다.

And God blessed the seventh day and said it was holy.

그리고 하나님께서 일곱째 날을 축복하시고 그 날을 거룩하다 하셨습니다.
