A famous scientist got on a plane and sat next to a gentleman.

한 유명한 과학자가 비행기에 타서 한 신사 옆에 앉았다.

After a while, the scientist said to the man, “I’m a great scientist from Germany.

잠시 후, 과학자는 남자에게 “나는 독일에서 온 위대한 과학자입니다.

This will be a long flight, so let’s play a game.”

긴 비행이 될 것이니, 게임을 합시다.”라고 말했다.

The scientist explained the rules.

과학자는 규칙을 설명했다.

“I will ask you a question.

“내가 당신에게 질문을 할 것입니다.

If you cannot answer it, you give me five dollars.

만약 당신이 답하지 못하면, 나에게 5달러를 주세요.

Then it will be your turn.

그러고 나서 당신 차례입니다.

I will give you five hundred dollars if I cannot answer your question.”

내가 당신의 질문에 답하지 못하면 당신에게 500달러를 주겠습니다.”

The scientist began the game.

과학자가 게임을 시작했다.

“What is the distance from the Earth to the moon?”

“지구에서 달까지의 거리가 얼마인가요?”

The man did not know, so he handed over five dollars.

남자는 답을 몰라서, 5달러를 건네주었다.

Then the man asked, “What goes up a hill with four legs and comes down with three?”

그러고 나서 남자가 “4개의 다리로 언덕을 올라가서 3개의 다리로 내려오는 것이 무엇일까요?”라고 물었다.

The scientist thought and thought, but did not have an answer.

과학자는 생각하고 또 생각했지만,답을 몰랐다.

So he gave the man five hundred dollars.

그래서 그는 남자에게 500달러를 주었다.

The scientist was very curious about the answer.

과학자는 그 답이 매우 궁금했다.

He asked, “Tell me the answer.

그는 “답을 말해 주세요.

What goes up a hill with four legs and comes down with three?”

4개의 다리로 언덕을 올라가서 3개의 다리로 내려오는 것이 무엇인가요?”라고 물었다.

The gentleman gave the scientist five dollars and replied, “I don’t know.”

신사는 과학자에게 5달러를 주며 “나도 모릅니다.”라고 답했다.
