Almost half of supermarket products have palm oil in them.

Palm oil is made from the fruit of oil palm trees.

팜유는 기름야자나무의 열매로 만들어진다.

It is popular because it’s cheap.

그것은 저렴하기 때문에 인기가 있다.

But it can be bad for the environment.

하지만 그것은 환경에 좋지 않을 수 있다.

Most palm oil comes from big plantations in Indonesia and Malaysia.

대부분의 팜유는 인도네시아와 말레이시아에 있는 큰 농장들에서 나온다.

People burn down rainforests to make these plantations.

사람들은 이 농장들을 만들기 위해 열대 우림을 태워 버린다.

Without rainforests, more carbon dioxide enters the atmosphere.

So global warming gets worse.

Plantations also destroy the homes of endangered species.

So why don’t we just stop using palm oil?
