Colorful autumn leaves are beautiful.

알록달록한 단풍잎은 아름답다.

But these leaves are also important for the trees.

하지만 이 잎은 나무에게도 중요하다.

During summer, leaves are green because of chlorophyll.

여름 동안 잎은 엽록소로 인해 초록색이다.

Chlorophyll absorbs energy from sunlight.

엽록소는 햇빛으로부터 에너지를 흡수한다.

The leaves turn the energy into sugars to feed the tree.

잎은 나무에 영양분을 주기 위해 그 에너지를 당분으로 바꾼다.

This is called photosynthesis.

이것은 광합성이라고 불린다.

As the seasons change, the days get shorter and colder.

계절이 바뀌면서 낮은 더 짧아지고 더 추워진다.

Trees get less sunlight, and the chlorophyll in the leaves breaks down.

나무는 햇빛을 더 적게 받고, 잎 속의 엽록소는 분해된다.

This causes the green pigment to disappear.

As this happens, we can see other colors.

Yellow and orange pigments are already in the leaves.
