Look at elephants and mammoths side by side.

This is because they are actually related.

Both elephants and mammoths are enormous animals.

코끼리와 매머드 모두 거대한 동물이다.

They both have long tusks and a trunk.

둘 다 긴 상아와 긴 코를 가지고 있다.

Both of their diets consist mainly of plants.

그들의 먹이는 주로 식물로 구성된다.

The two species descend from the same ancestor.

두 종은 같은 조상의 후손이다.

However, sometime in the past, the ancestors of mammoths left their native habitats.

그러나, 과거 어느 시점에, 매머드의 조상은 원래의 서식지를 떠났다.

While elephants mostly stayed in Africa and Asia, mammoths traveled to colder regions like Europe and North America.

Over time, their bodies adapted to these colder climates.

The most obvious change was their fur.

Mammoths grew thick coats of brown fur.

Their numbers decreased due to human hunting.

As the planet warmed, they couldn’t adapt quickly enough to survive.
