Almost all animals can taste.

As the sense helps with eating and finding food, it is essential for survival.

Taste works differently for humans and insects.

There are insects with more sensitive *taste buds than humans.

Honey bees are able to detect low concentrations of a sugar from plants.

꿀벌은 식물에서 나오는 당분의 낮은 농도를 감지할 수 있다.

In addition, they can figure out whether a sweetener is artificial.

게다가, 그들은 감미료가 인공적인지 아닌지를 알아낼 수 있다.

The bees need to make honey to survive.

So they ignore any sweeteners that cannot be processed into honey.

Humans and insects also use different body parts for tasting.

Humans taste with the thousands of taste buds on their tongue.

Although insects do use their mouths for tasting, they can also use their antennae or legs.

For example, butterflies and flies first taste something with their feet before using their tube-shaped mouth to eat it.

For these insects, walking on good food is enough to trigger their appetite.
